Students may elect to study Food Technology in Years 9 and 10 at Woonona High School. Students studying Food Technology are provided the opportunity to learn about food and food preparation. Practical experiences are a major component of this course and relate directly to the theory lessons taught.

The study of Food Technology provides students with a broad knowledge and understanding of food properties, processing, preparation and their interrelationships, nutritional considerations and consumption patterns. It addresses the importance of hygiene and safe working practices and legislation in the production of food. It also provides students with a context through which to explore the richness, pleasure and variety food adds to life.

Students will develop food-specific skills which they can apply to a range of contexts to produce quality food products. They will also develop a range of practical skills in preparing and presenting food that will enable them to select and use appropriate ingredients, methods, and equipment.

Food Technology is suitable for all students in Years 9 and 10.
