Year 9

Year 9 is the year to build on skills and develop further into a more senior level of study through analysis.  The development of skills is a high priority in composing and responding to an increasingly sophisticated and complex range of texts.

The Year 9 course of study is designed to facilitate awakening in students to become critical citizens in the wider world. Real-world issues are considered through various textual forms. Students are focused on becoming critical consumers through studies in film, media studies and a range of contemporary poetry.

Students will study a range of more complex essays and write analytical essays. They will also be immersed in a real-world text such as documentaries and non-fiction. The process of creative writing, including peer and self-assessment, will enable students to become more effective learners

Students will complete a variety of tasks that utilise information and communication technologies (ICT) skills including PowerPoint presentations, Prezi and blogging techniques. They will also engage with a learning and responding matrix (ALARM) templates to scaffold and extend their essay writing skills.
