Science at Woonona High School

The study of Science at Woonona High School is exciting and fulfilling. Students develop numeracy, literacy, practical and critical thinking skills. Students are encouraged to think independently and are guided, extended and supported by dedicated staff. In class, students can expect to study a wide range of topics from the core sciences of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Earth and Environmental Science. Students explore how science is dynamic and growing. They learn to appreciate the impacts of science from a microscopic scale through to the entirety of the universe.

Science is a compulsory subject for students in years 7-10. Additionally, Woonona High School offers Science-based electives to students in years 8-10. These electives include Marine Studies, Marine Science and Aquaculture, and Mythbusters.

Teaching and learning in Science is differentiated to meet the needs of a diverse range of students - from our gifted and talented to students with additional learning needs. Students engage in a range of rich practical and assessment tasks that enable them to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding in a supportive, positive learning environment.
