Support unit

Our Support Unit is a welcoming and supportive learning environment designed for students with autism and those who experience high levels of anxiety. With three small classes, we are able to provide individualised attention and create a safe, structured setting where students can thrive. Each child’s learning is guided by a personalised program that reflects their strengths, interests, and goals, ensuring that they are challenged at the right level and supported in the areas where they need it most.

A key focus of the Support Unit is on social and emotional development. We help students build positive relationships, develop resilience, and strengthen their communication and problem-solving skills. Our programs encourage self-awareness, emotional regulation, and confidence so that students feel capable and supported both inside and outside of the classroom.

Students in the Support Unit benefit from flexible learning opportunities. While they work within small classes for core learning and wellbeing support, they are also encouraged to integrate into mainstream classes for selected subjects. This allows them to connect with their peers, explore their interests, and experience a wider variety of learning opportunities while still having the security of a supportive base.

Our approach extends well beyond the classroom. We provide a broad range of extracurricular opportunities including community access programs, creative arts, sporting activities, and life skills learning. These experiences are designed to build independence, social confidence, and a sense of achievement, while also supporting students to explore their talents and enjoy a full and balanced school life.

Preparing students for life after school is a key focus of the Support Unit. We place a strong emphasis on transitions and future pathways, working closely with families and external providers to ensure each student is ready for the next stage of their journey. Depending on individual interests and needs, this may include Supported Learning Employment Services (SLES), apprenticeships, TAFE courses, or other vocational programs. Our goal is to help every student develop the skills and confidence they need to move successfully into adult life.

The Support Unit provides a caring, structured, and flexible environment where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally; connect with their community; and feel prepared for a bright future beyond school.
