Languages

In NSW high schools, Languages form an important Key Learning Area. The study of languages enables students to develop communication skills, understand language as a system, and explore the rich connections between language and culture. Through language learning, students engage with the cultural and linguistic diversity of societies and reflect on their own perspectives and interactions.

At our school, students study Japanese, developing skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while also gaining insight into Japan’s history, traditions, and contemporary culture.

All students complete the mandatory 100 hours of language study in Year 7. Following this, Japanese is available as an elective in Years 8–10, allowing students to deepen their skills and cultural knowledge. In the senior years, Stage 6 courses in Japanese are offered for the HSC, catering for both continuing and advanced learners.
